The verdict fell for the 2026 prize winners of the Bayeux Calvados-Normandie Prize, Saturday, October 10, 2026. The disastrous situation in Gaza was highlighted once again. The international jury, chaired this year by Lyse Doucet, emphasized the continuing suffering of the Gazans, despite the ceasefire.
The "Washington Post", NPR and CNN complete the list of winners, while the photographer of Associated Press, Jehad Alshrafi, whose image had been removed from a festival in Deauville, received the Young Reporter Award.
Independent Palestinian photographer Mahmoud Abu Hamda has won the Bayeux Calvados-Normandy International War Correspondents Award 2026 in the photography category, as well as the audience award. This year’s event featured reports and photographs from the war in Gaza, the conflict in Ukraine and the violence in the West Bank, highlighting the importance of war journalism in documenting conflicts and their humanitarian consequences.
