258 Foreigners Detained in Islamabad Scam Centre Raid: FIA
The Federal Investigation Agency said the detainees entered on tourist visas and could face deportation as embassies were notified.
On Monday, the Federal Investigation Agency raided an alleged "scam call centre" in Islamabad, detaining 258 foreign nationals including 40 Chinese citizens.
The operation in Gulberg Green, a housing society on Islamabad's outskirts, prompted the raid as individuals had entered Pakistan on tourist visas to work illegally.
Detainees include 170 people from Vietnam, 40 Chinese citizens, and nationals from Malaysia and "other Asian countries," all held at a Rawalpindi jail.
The FIA informed respective embassies of the detentions, stating that deportation remains a possible outcome as the investigation into criminal activities continues.
A similar July 2025 raid resulted in 149 arrests, including 71 foreigners involved in a "large call centre involving Ponzi schemes and investment fraud.
