Pakistan Sends 8,000 Troops, Jets and Air Defenses to Saudi Arabia: Reuters
The deployment includes about 8,000 troops, 16 fighter jets and two drone squadrons, sources said, as Pakistan deepens military support for Riyadh.
On Monday, Reuters reported Pakistan deployed around 8,000 troops, a squadron of 16 JF-17 jets, and a Chinese HQ-9 air defense system to Saudi Arabia under a mutual defense pact signed last year.
This deployment occurs as Islamabad serves as the principal mediator in the Iran war, having brokered a ceasefire between Washington and Tehran that has held for six weeks.
Two security officials state the personnel will primarily hold advisory and training roles, while Saudi Arabia finances all equipment operated by Pakistani troops.
While current numbers are around 8,000, the confidential agreement provides for the possibility of up to 80,000 Pakistani troops to help secure Saudi Arabia's borders.
Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif previously claimed the agreement places Saudi Arabia under Pakistan's nuclear umbrella, stating capabilities "will be made available.
Pakistani military reinforcements in Saudi Arabia: Security and government sources reported that Pakistan has deployed approximately 8,000 troops, along with a squadron of fighter jets and an air defense system, inside Saudi Arabia, under a defense agreement between the two countries. This move reflects the escalating military cooperation between Islamabad and Riyadh.
