Tatis Makes Spectacular Leaping Catch to Rob Devers of a Home Run
Gavin Sheets drove in four runs with two home runs as the Padres narrowed their NL West deficit to one game against the Dodgers, aided by Fernando Tatis Jr.'s defensive play.
The San Diego Padres defeated the San Francisco Giants 8-1 on Wednesday night at Petco Park with Gavin Sheets hitting two home runs and Fernando Tatis Jr. making a key catch.
The game featured Giants starter Landen Roupp being injured by a line drive from Ramon Laureano in the third inning, which forced him off the field.
In addition to Sheets' performance, Manny Machado and Ryan O'Hearn homered for the Padres, while Tatis robbed Rafael Devers of a home run with a leaping catch in the first inning.
Tatis tracked the ball perfectly, caught it high above the right-field wall, then threw it to the infield after landing on his backside, thrilling the Petco Park crowd.
The Padres’ victory narrowed their deficit to one game behind the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers as Giants RHP Justin Verlander and Padres RHP Dylan Cease are scheduled to start Thursday’s series finale.
