Five days after its entry into force, the trade association took the next step "in the fight against the unspeakable national parcel tax" and filed an internal market complaint with the European Commission.
Handelsverband filed a complaint with the EU Commission, and Zalando was the first trader to appeal to the Constitutional Court.
The trade association is bringing an internal market complaint to the EU Commission because of the Austrian parcel tax. It sees violations of EU rules and warns against burdens for domestic traders and consumers.
Domestic mail orderers defend themselves against the new tax and see it as a violation of EU law. Fashion dealer Zalando has brought a lawsuit in Vienna.
The trade association filed an internal market complaint with the European Commission on Tuesday. Shipping agents with a turnover of more than 100 million euros in Austria have been obliged to pay the tax of two euros per package or order since 1 October. Including VAT, this is 2.40 euros. The trade association sees significant violations of EU law, including the free movement of goods and the freedom to provide services.
