Ottawa Redblacks end 22-game losing skid with 40-39 win over Toronto Argonauts
Barnes completed 27 of 37 passes for 335 yards and two touchdowns as Ottawa earned its first win and first home victory since Sept. 5, 2025.
On Friday, rookie quarterback Bryson Barnes led the Ottawa Redblacks to a 40-39 victory over the Toronto Argonauts, snapping the team's 22-game losing skid in his first CFL start.
Overcoming a disastrous start, the Redblacks took a 23-16 halftime lead as Barnes completed 27 of 37 passes for 335 yards and two touchdowns to Ayden Eberhardt.
Argonauts quarterback Chad Kelly left midway through the first quarter after being tackled by defensive end Luiji Vilain, forcing backup Nick Arbuckle to pass for 305 yards and two touchdowns.
Toronto took a 39-33 lead with 30 seconds remaining, but Barnes executed a three-play drive to connect with Eberhardt for a 24-yard touchdown before Paul Geelen secured the win with a convert.
Ottawa visits the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on October 24 to close out the season, while the Argonauts host the Montreal Alouettes on October 23 in their final regular-season matchup.
