Guinea-Bissau opposition leader faces military court over coup plot allegations
Guinea-Bissau's main opposition leader, Domingos Simões Pereira, appeared before a military court on Friday facing allegations of involvement in multiple coup attempts, accusations his entourage has vehemently denied as politically motivated.
The Military Court heard the leader of the PAIGC on the State Gulf in Guinea-Bissau. Domingos Simón is in domestic detention since the military took power on 23 November 2025.
Former Prime Minister and current President of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC), Domingos Simões Pereira, presented himself Friday, 13 February 2026 to the Superior Military Court of Bissau. He was expected by the Military Justice Prosecutor for a hearing whose contours remain unknown for the time being.
