OPP Officer Charged with Assault During Arrest in Caledon: SIU
Ontario’s police watchdog says the officer faces assault causing bodily harm charges after a man suffered a serious injury during handcuffing.
On Friday, the Ontario Special Investigations Unit announced that an Ontario Provincial Police officer faces an assault charge following an arrest in Caledon.
Responding to a dispute at a residence in Caledon East, officers arrested a man for allegedly uttering threats on December 26, 2025.
Constable Daniel Kooy was charged with assault causing bodily harm after the SIU determined the man suffered a serious injury during the handcuffing process.
Kooy is scheduled to appear before an Orangeville court in late November to address the criminal charge filed by the provincial watchdog.
Operating across Ontario, the Ontario Special Investigations Unit investigates incidents involving police that result in serious injury, death, or allegations of sexual assault.
