Samsung Working with OpenAI on Next-Generation Custom Chip
OpenAI said ChatGPT Enterprise users at South Korean companies surged 28-fold as it expands chip research and workplace AI with Samsung.
- OpenAI is deepening cooperation with Samsung Electronics on next-generation chip development and enterprise AI services, as confirmed by Harrison Kim, General Manager of OpenAI Korea, at a press conference in Seoul on Wednesday.
- Prior to this deepening cooperation, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix signed letters of intent last year to supply memory chips for OpenAI's Stargate data centre project, while OpenAI designs custom Jalapeno chips with Broadcom and TSMC.
- South Korean adoption of ChatGPT Enterprise surged about 28-fold since last August, with OpenAI identifying Samsung Electronics as one of the "largest-scale deployments of ChatGPT globally," where employees use the platform across research, development, marketing, and sales.
- Samsung Electronics allows its Device division employees to utilize Google's Gemini and Anthropic's Claude internally, while OpenAI expects adoption to accelerate following the September 4 launch of GPT-6 Astra.
