OpenAI Launches College Planner in ChatGPT for Teens to Track Applications, Financial Aid
The planner will help students track requirements and aid deadlines, while new study features add flashcards, quizzes and note scanning.
- On Wednesday, OpenAI announced it is adding a College Planner tool and new study features to ChatGPT for Teens to assist students with application processes and academic preparation.
- These updates arrive shortly after Common Sense Media deemed the platform an "unacceptable risk," claiming the tool "still does kids' homework" and lacks sufficient parental alerts.
- College Advising Corps CEO Ekaterina Struett said the planner helps students "stay on track" by tracking deadlines, financial-aid steps, and requirements across schools on a user's list.
- Designed for students in grades 10-12, the initial experience focuses on four-year colleges, following a rollout where nearly 1.2 million teens used Learning Visualizations and 180,000 utilized Study Mode.
- OpenAI plans to expand support to two-year colleges, trade schools, and international students, while currently offering new features like multipage note scanning and flashcard generation.
