- OpenAI unveiled ChatGPT Health today, a sandboxed Health tab inside the ChatGPT app with separate chat history and memory, starting with a small beta cohort via a waitlist.
- Because users already turn to ChatGPT for health questions, OpenAI said over 230 million people weekly face healthcare access, cost and continuity challenges, prompting a secure, structured response.
- Built with clinical oversight, OpenAI developed HealthBench and worked with more than 260 physicians across 60 countries, contributing over 600,000 medical evaluation points with encryption and isolation, and Health chats aren’t used to train foundation models by default.
- Legal limits and court-order exceptions mean HIPAA usually doesn’t apply to consumer products, OpenAI head of health Nate Gross said, while reported hospitalization cases highlight mental-health risks and health anxiety.
- Through partner integrations, U.S. users can link electronic health records via b.well Connected Health, which works with about 2.2 million providers, and ChatGPT Health will expand web and iOS access over the coming weeks via waitlist.
