One paddleboarder dead, another rescued at Colorado reservoir
Investigators said neither man wore a life jacket, and they are reviewing whether alcohol and weather contributed to the fall.
A 28-year-old man died at Eleven Mile Reservoir in Park County after falling from a shared paddleboard on Friday. Personnel from the Park County Sheriff recovered his body by sonar late that evening.
This marks the second fatal drowning at Eleven Mile Reservoir in nine days, following a 67-year-old person's death earlier. The Park County Sheriff pleaded for increased water safety awareness.
While a bystander rescued one man, neither victim wore a life jacket despite having one on board. The Park County Sheriff stated weather conditions and potential alcohol use may have contributed to the accident.
"Our deepest condolences go out to the families and friends who are now facing an unimaginable loss," the Park County Sheriff said. The agency acknowledged trauma experienced by first responders and witnesses.
The Park County Sheriff urges summer visitors to wear life jackets, stay sober, and respect weather conditions. "If you are heading out onto one of Park County's beautiful reservoirs this summer, please take water safety seriously.
