65 years ago, on Wednesday, July 12, 1961, India's Panshet Dam on the Ambi River burst in the early hours of the morning after prolonged heavy rains, in its first year of holding back water. The wave created a wall of water that broke through another smaller dam and rushed to the city of Pune, 50 kilometers away.
