Olympic Stadium Design Unveiled for Brisbane Games
The $3.8 billion stadium will seat 63,000 for sports and 70,000 for concerts and host the 2032 Games ceremonies and athletics, then serve as home to major local teams.
- On Monday, GIICA unveiled artist impressions of the $3.8 billion Brisbane Olympic stadium and announced COX Architecture, Hassell, and Azusa Sekkei will lead the Victoria Park design in Herston.
- After an exhaustive procurement process, GIICA said COX, Hassell and Azusa Sekkei were awarded the contract following Expressions of Interest last September, moving Brisbane closer to its 2032 stadium.
- A 63,000-seat design will host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and athletics at the 2032 Games, then become home to the Brisbane Lions, Queensland Bulls and Brisbane Heat adjacent to the National Aquatic Centre.
- The development faces legal and heritage challenges, including an application under Section 10 of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Heritage Protection Act, and a community protest is planned for January 31, Save Victoria Park's Rosemary O'Hagan said `This latest tranche of greenwashed computer imagery is not real`.
