Blood cells from 80-year-old donor become stem cells with molecular age under 20
Researchers from the University Hospital of Bonn and the University of Bonn have succeeded in dramatically rejuvenating human cells in a test tube. To do so, they directly reprogrammed red blood cell precursors into stem cells from which neurons can be derived. During this process, the molecular clocks that indicate a cell's age were reset. For example, blood cells from an 80-year-old were transformed into stem cells with a molecular age of less than 20 years.
Researchers in Germany have managed to “turn back” the biological clock of human cells, converting cells from an 80-year-old person into neural stem cells with a molecular age of less than 20 years. What could this mean for the study of aging and Alzheimer’s disease? Can an 80-year-old human cell regain the biological age of a cell under 20? Researchers in Germany have achieved just that in the laboratory, reprogramming blood cells and convertin…
Epigenetic DNA Methylation Clocks Track Gradual Cellular Rejuvenation Across Fifty Days
Blood Cells From 80-Year-Olds Rejuvenated Into Brain Cells With Molecular
University of Bonn researchers directly reprogrammed red blood cell precursors from elderly donors into neural stem cells whose epigenetic clocks were reset from a molecular age of about 80 years to under 20, a gradual rejuvenation tracked over more than 100 days.
The molecular clock of a cell shows signs of their biological age by means of chemical markings of their DNA. Researchers have converted blood precursor cells from humans to neural stem cells up to the age of 101 years, whose age markers greatly decreased. Surprisingly, this process lasted several weeks and could help to investigate the mechanisms of cellular rejuvenation. Bonn (Germany). Blood and nerve cells [...] Der Beitrag Old blood- transf…
