Oklahoma Democrats Find New Poll to Get Their Hopes Up…

While Still Solid Republican, Governor’s Race Shifts
The Cook Political Report has updated its rating for the Oklahoma governor’s race from “Solid R” to “Likely R”. Republican nominee Mike Mazzei is still heavily favored over House Minority Leader Cyndi Munson, who is trying to become the first Democrat in the governor’s mansion since Brad Henry won in 2002. The Cook Political Report points out that “national Democrats are bullish on her candidacy.” However, Republicans still dominate Democrats when it comes to registered voters. A recent Cross Timbers Poll indicates Democrats seem to be coalescing behind Munson more solidly than Republicans behind Mazzei. That poll shows the two candidates are in a statistical tie, but uses a small sample size of likely voters. It also asked undecided voters who they were leaning toward. Those results show Mazzei gaining more voters in that space. Mazzei leads Munson in the Cross Timbers Poll 39% to 36%.
