Okanagan College partners with the Royal Canadian Air Force
Twenty-two RCAF members will train in two aircraft maintenance programs as the college responds to strong demand for skilled technicians.
Twenty-Two members of the Royal Canadian Air Force joined Okanagan College's Aircraft Maintenance Engineering program in October, following an agreement to train technicians at Kelowna and Vernon airports.
Aligned with the Defence Industrial Strategy, this collaboration diversifies training opportunities for new aircraft technicians during a period of growth for the RCAF.
Brigadier-General Dan Coutts, Commander of 2 Canadian Air Division, stated the initiative represents the Defence Industrial Strategy, supporting maintenance of the Air Force's sophisticated aircraft.
Stephen Fuhr, Member of Parliament for Kelowna and Secretary of State for Defence Procurement, said the partnership strengthens national security; RCAF members will reside in Vernon campus housing.
Dean of Trades and Apprenticeship Caitlin Hartigan said the college is "helping to support their workforce demands," ensuring the program remains agile to produce skilled workers for the region.
