BECKER COUNTY, MINNESOTA, JUL 9 – The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating after deputies pursued a man who allegedly assaulted someone and stole a firearm, leading to an officer-involved shooting.
- On the evening of July 9, 36-year-old Todd Ole Burris from Bemidji was struck by police gunfire at a rest area near Frazee in Otter Tail County following a pursuit.
- The pursuit began after Becker County deputies responded around 5:30 p.m. to a domestic assault report where Burris assaulted a person and stole a firearm.
- Deputies and officers from Becker County, Detroit Lakes Police, Minnesota State Patrol, and Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office chased Burris from Detroit Lakes into Otter Tail County before the shooting.
- Officers equipped with body cameras encountered Burris, discharged their weapons, provided assistance at the scene, and then took him to the Essentia medical facility located in Detroit Lakes before he was moved to Essentia in Fargo.
- The investigation is being conducted by the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and Burris remains stable in the hospital, with plans to charge him with aggravated assault once he is discharged.
