Off-road vehicles banned on Crown land in many parts of B.C. as wildfires burn
The order exempts emergency responders and farm or business vehicles, while violators can face tickets, penalties and fines up to $100,000.
- On Monday, Aug. 10, 2026, the BC Wildfire Service prohibited recreational off-road vehicle use on Crown land across the Southeast, Kamloops, and Cariboo fire centres, plus parts of the Coastal Fire Centre.
- Elevated danger ratings and the scope of active wildfires prompted the Wildfire Service to implement restrictions aimed at protecting public safety and preventing accidental ignitions in backcountry areas.
- The ban covers ATVs, motorcycles, and side-by-side vehicles on Crown land but excludes private lands, national parks, and vehicles operated for emergency response, agriculture, or commercial purposes.
- The prohibition remains in effect until Oct. 9, 2026, at noon Pacific Time, though the Wildfire Service will continue monitoring conditions and may expand or rescind restrictions as needed.
