NSF Plans $100m AI Infrastructure Hubs Program to Boost Science R&D

- Nvidia is teaming up with the NSF to provide technical guidance and training services, helping institutions build programs that prepare learners to use AI systems, accelerated computing, and data workflows responsibly.
- Each hub will pool resources across states and institutions to unlock compute power, with investments aligned to local job market needs; NSF is actively seeking additional private-sector and philanthropic organizations to support the program.
- Resistance to institutional AI persists; in June, roughly 4,000 people signed a petition against the California State University system's contract with OpenAI, with professor Martha Kenney warning the push is "a step down the path of creating a really different kind of future citizen and worker.
