NVIDIA Promises DLSS 5 Support for RTX 40-Series GPUs in the Future
Nvidia says DLSS 5 will first launch on RTX 50 GPUs, with official support for RTX 40-series cards planned after performance tuning.
- Nvidia spokesperson Rajal Maharaj confirmed to The Verge that DLSS 5 will officially expand to GeForce RTX 40 GPUs after initial RTX 50 exclusivity. For gamers, the technology functions as a simple on-or-off toggle.
- Officially, the controversial DLSS 5 rendering was initially restricted to RTX 50 GPUs with developers in full control of artistic vision. Nvidia is now changing these plans as some companies appear to have backed away.
- Developers can utilize granular controls like Structure Intensity and Tone Intensity to isolate objects. AI models automatically recognize items like "silverware" and "furniture," distinguishing between faces, textiles, and foliage for custom neural lighting adjustments.
- Modders have already ported a leaked version of DLSS 5 to run on various hardware with maxed-out sliders. When asked about the 12 originally-announced titles, Nvidia replied only: "More games are on the way."
- Performance tuning for the RTX 50 Series remains the priority before expanding support to GeForce RTX 40 Series. Nvidia stated, "Once RTX 50 Series performance is more fully tuned, we plan to work on expanding official support to the GeForce RTX 40 Series.
