Nutri-Score: France backs strict new food-labelling

A new version of food labelling system Nutri-Score has been approved by the French government, despite criticism from within.

The executive announced that the calculation of the barometer will be changed "taking into account the imperatives of public health". The new milling is particularly severe with regard to processed products.

The Ministers in charge of Economy, Health, Agriculture and Trade signed a decree "amending the rules of calculation" of the nutritional scale on Friday 14 March with the aim of "fighting overweight, obesity".

Companies and brands involved in this voluntary process have two years to update their packaging.
