Tinubu Confirms Payment of D’Tigress’ $100,000 Reward
Tinubu said each player received the naira equivalent of $100,000 and each official $50,000, completing the presidential rewards package.
On Thursday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced that members of the D-Tigrees have received their promised cash rewards, with players receiving the naira equivalent of $100,000 and officials $50,000 each.
The D-Tigrees earned these rewards after winning the 2025 FIBA Women AfroBasket title for a record fifth consecutive time, though the payout follows a difficult campaign at the Basketball World Cup in Germany.
Completing the package, the Federal Government fulfilled commitments to provide three-bedroom homes in Abuja and National Honours, requiring extensive legal and administrative processing to implement fully.
D-Tigrees captain Amy Okonkwo expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the Nigeria Basketball Federation for ensuring fulfillment, while NBBF President Musa Kida said the payment demonstrated the President kept his word.
Currently, the Federal Government is finalizing outstanding cash rewards for the Super Falcons, while similar commitments to the Super Eagles have already been fully redeemed.
