North Saanich athlete selected for Team Canada U18 softball team
Coppinger earned one of 16 roster spots after a standout season that included a .590 average and a national silver medal.
North Saanich athlete Emma Coppinger earned a spot on the U18 Women's National Team, capping a standout year with the Central Saanich Extreme that culminated in a national silver medal in August.
Coppinger played baseball until she was 15 before transitioning to softball, and she credits her coaches and family for helping her reach the National Team.
During the U17 Extreme's national silver medal run, Coppinger earned the Top Batter Award after hitting.590, going 23-for-39 with 20 RBIs and scoring 18 runs.
Canada will head to San Salvador for the WBSC U18 Women's Pan American Championship from Nov. 21 to 28, an 18-team tournament serving as a qualifier for the 2028 World Cup.
While prioritizing softball, Coppinger continues to play AAA hockey at the Victoria Hockey Academy, stating, "My main priority is the logo before anything," regarding her commitment to the squad.
