No growth seen as residents praise crews for work on Guichon Creek fire near Logan Lake
Crews are mopping up hot spots and building guard lines as the 145-hectare fire remains near Logan Lake, officials said.
- On Sunday, Aug. 2, the Guichon Creek wildfire near Logan Lake was classified as 'Being Held' with no new growth observed overnight, holding at an estimated 145 hectares.
- Discovered July 29 and suspected to be human-caused, the blaze prompted evacuation alerts for 49 properties in Logan Lake and seven in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District.
- BC Wildfire Service and Logan Lake Fire Rescue crews are actively mopping up hot spots with helicopter support. "Crews are mopping up, extinguishing areas along the guards where there are hot spots that are burning more deeply," an update stated.
- Many of the 2,000 local residents remain prepared to evacuate, drawing on experience from the 2021 Tremont Creek fire that came within 30 feet of homes.
- Environment Canada forecasts wind gusts up to 80 km/h and a 60 per cent chance of afternoon showers on Saturday. Fire behaviour remains at Rank 1, a smouldering ground fire with white smoke and no open flame.
