Everything Announced at Nintendo's Inaugural Pikmin Day Direct
Nintendo will release monthly Pikmin shorts and add new Switch 2 features to Pikmin 4 as it expands the franchise beyond games.
During Saturday, Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto announced that Nov. 1 will be known as Pikmin Day, an annual celebration of the 25-year-old puzzle-strategy franchise. Miyamoto chose the date because 11.1 visually resembles three Pikmin standing side by side.
Miyamoto introduced Japanese actress Fuka Koshiba as the new franchise ambassador, promising, "going forward, I want people to know more about Pikmin." The broadcast detailed plans for new monthly animated shorts through Nintendo Today.
The Nintendo Switch Edition of Pikmin arrives Nov. 12 with exclusive Dandori Academy mode, allowing players to command Oatchi using voice commands via the console's built-in microphone. Seventy-two Dandori Academy stages will release over time.
A demo launches on Monday, Nov. 2, offering access to Sun-Speckled Terrace and two Dandori Academy challenges. Separately, Pikmin Bloom receives a winter update introducing Secret Caves, where players send Pikmin underground to battle enemies and collect treasure.
These initiatives represent a major expansion for the franchise that has long been a passion project for Miyamoto. By integrating new media, hardware features, and a celebrity ambassador, Nintendo aims to deepen long-term engagement with the Pikmin universe.
