Drake Bell Blasts SAG-AFTRA over Health Insurance Rejection
Bell said his covered earnings fell short of SAG-AFTRA health plan requirements and urged actors to avoid joining the union.
On Tuesday, actor Drake Bell shared an Instagram Story screenshot showing he failed to meet SAG-AFTRA Health Plan eligibility requirements, citing insufficient earnings during the July 2025–June 2026 period.
Official portal data shows Bell earned $17,480.53, needing $11,452.47 more to reach the $28,933 threshold; as of 2026, SAG-AFTRA mandates minimum annual earnings of $28,090 for health plan access.
Criticizing the union's management, actor Drake Bell tagged SAG-AFTRA and president Sean Astin in his post, writing, "Really though @seanastin you're doing a bang up job," while questioning actors in leadership roles.
Similar struggles were revealed by Atypical actor Jack Haven and Princess Diaries star Heather Matarazzo, who noted last month they also faced difficulties qualifying for health insurance without securing additional work.
Neither SAG-AFTRA nor president Sean Astin has responded to Bell's remarks. Bell, known for Nickelodeon's Drake & Josh, has recently focused on music and touring, releasing his album Non-Stop Flight in 2024.
