A 26-year-old suspect was arrested after an attempted sexual assault on the RER C train near Paris, with two other women reporting the same attacker, police said.
- Earlier this month, an alleged attempted rape occurred aboard an RER C train between Choisy-le-Roi and Villeneuve-le-Roi, south-east of Paris, and a suspect was taken into custody Friday in Mantes-la-Jolie.
- The alleged attacker boarded the carriage and approached Dias, pushing her and attempting to pull down her underwear in the morning in a nearly empty carriage, and Dias filed a complaint in Choisy-le-Roi with her brother translating.
- Alerted by screams, a fellow passenger pulled out her phone and filmed the assailant, and Marguerite, the passenger who filmed the incident, is credited with preventing a worse attack; the footage circulated widely on news outlets and social media.
- Two other women have since told Le Parisien they were attacked by the same man, while French media reported the victim was sexually assaulted, slapped and bitten; the suspect told police he was a 26-year-old Egyptian national at arrest.
- The case has reignited a national debate about women's safety on public transport in France, while the report shows victims rose 86% since 2016.
