France Battle Hard but Roigard Keeps
In Dave Rennie's debut, the All Blacks narrowly beat an understrength France 34-32, as key French players were rested after their domestic league final.
On Saturday, the All Blacks launched the Dave Rennie era with a 34-32 win over France at Christchurch's Te Kaha stadium in the first Nations Championship test.
France entered the match understrength, missing captain Antoine Dupont and several first-choice players who were rested following the recent Top 14 final.
All Blacks scrumhalf Cam Roigard and winger Will Jordan each scored two tries, with Sam Lakai also crossing to establish a 19-13 halftime lead for the hosts.
Despite a late rally from flyhalf Matthieu Jalibert, who scored in the 77th minute, the All Blacks held on to deny France a first win in New Zealand since 2009.
Rennie began his tenure as head coach with a win at Te Kaha, where the hosts successfully defended their home turf in the first Nations Championship test.
