New York consul general's former Park Avenue residence has sold
Realtor websites say the five-bedroom apartment sold after nearly two years on the market, following price cuts from its original US$9.5 million listing.
On May 11, the former residence of Canada's consul general in New York sold for US$8.05 million, ending nearly two years on the market.
Global Affairs Canada listed the Park Avenue property in August 2024 after officials determined the residence required extensive renovations, citing accessibility issues and inadequate workspace separation.
Conservatives criticized the C$9 million purchase of a new condominium on "Billionaires' Row" near Central Park, calling it wasteful and opulent.
Consul General Tom Clark testified before a House of Commons committee to deny involvement in the transactions after headlines mistakenly linked the deed to His Majesty the King.
Originally purchased in 1961, the property struggled to find a buyer as online realtor websites showed the listing price dropped to US$7.9 million last September.
