New UEFA rules suddenly ban Champions League clash between Liverpool and Real Madrid at Anfield
UEFA’s draw rule keeps the fixture from repeating for a third straight season, though Liverpool can still meet Real Madrid away or in the knockout rounds.

- Liverpool cannot face Manchester City, Arsenal, or Aston Villa in the league phase under draw rules prohibiting domestic rivals. Teams are also restricted to a maximum of two opponents from any single football association.
- Starting September 8-10, the 36 qualified teams will begin their eight-match league phase to determine Round of 16 qualification. Results contribute to one large table, replacing the previous group stage format.
