New search & rescue base in Sicamous 'Floated by SASCU'

In 2025, the RCMSAR Station 106 Rescue Base was opened in Sicamous to support and improve water safety efforts, backed by continued financial contributions from SASCU.
SASCU provided ongoing financial support and collaboration, backed by a five-year commitment to float the new purpose-built floating base.
The floating base is equipped with environmentally considerate materials, sustainable energy sources, and efficient temperature regulation systems, which together enhance vessel protection and enable faster mission readiness throughout the year.
Bruce Weicker, Shuswap Lifeboat Society president, said, "We are officially mission ready," while Constance Ladell from SASCU praised the project as "exceptional" and life-saving.
The facility's opening marks years of planning, fundraising, and collaboration that will strengthen local community resiliency and support rescue volunteers across the Shuswap.
