Scientists from UT Austin and TSMC have conducted an experiment on magnetic memory that stores data instantly, consumes little energy, and doesn't disappear after a power loss. SOT-MRAM could be a significant competitor or collaborator with traditional GPUs and could give local AI a powerful boost without constantly polling the cloud.
A new memory for AI, called SOT-MRAM, can retain information even when there is no electricity. It uses magnetic properties and other conditions that make it faster and at the same time more efficient, consuming less energy than other memory technologies.
