New coach Ronald Nored takes over a Butler that is still trying to recapture the Hinkle magic
Nored rebuilt Butler with transfers and overseas additions after the Bulldogs lost five of their top six scorers.
Ronald Nored, former Butler player and NBA guard, was hired to lead the Bulldogs, seeking to reverse a program that has recorded only one winning season in the last five years and no NCAA Tournament appearance since 2018.
After losing five of their top six scorers, including Finley Bizjack and Michael Ajayi, the Bulldogs face significant rebuilding while struggling with perimeter shooting at 32.7% from three-point range last season.
Nored overhauled the roster with transfers Jordan Ellerbee, Samis Calderon, Eduardo Klafke, and Treyson Anderson, plus international recruits Marko Maric, Samu Adler, and Asim Djulovic to complement returning center Drayton Jones.
Familiar faces joined the coaching staff as assistant coaches Emerson Kampen and Jon Diebler, adviser Gordon Hayward, and director of basketball operations Ali Matta, whose father Thad Matta previously led the program.
Butler makes its season debut against Lafayette on Monday, November 2, before a non-conference schedule featuring road trips to Boise State and North Carolina, with guard Christian Moore expected to provide needed perimeter shooting.
