Nearly half of men delay seeking medical help for themselves
The poll found 92% urge friends to see a GP, while 47% delay the same appointment for themselves, Medichecks said.
A Medichecks poll of 2,000 men conducted via OnePoll revealed that 92 per cent urge friends to visit a healthcare professional, yet 47 per cent admit delaying their own appointments for identical symptoms.
Outdated stereotypes regarding stoicism drive this behavior, as 73 per cent of men believe needing to suffer in silence prevents them from seeking necessary medical attention.
Data shows 52 per cent of men wait until symptoms become hard to ignore before seeking help, while 23 per cent of those who delayed later discovered their issues turned out serious.
Former footballer Chris Kamara and Medichecks are transforming the Trent Navigation Inn into The Well Man Arms to encourage men to discuss health while watching football together.
Natasha Fernando, medical director at Medichecks, added that the "disconnect between how men look after others" remains critical, as men often put their own health at the bottom of their priority list.
