Cooper Flagg, the NBA’s Top Rookie, Gets a Ride From NASCAR Rookie Connor Zilisch
Flagg met several NASCAR stars and rode with Connor Zilisch at more than 100 mph before serving as honorary pace car driver.
On Sunday, Dallas Mavericks forward Cooper Flagg served as the honorary pace car driver for the Wurth 400 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, leading the 38-car field to the green flag.
Before the race, Cup Series rookie Connor Zilisch drove Flagg in a 2026 Chevrolet Corvette at speeds well over 100 mph, providing an up-close look at the track.
Flagg, named NBA Rookie of the Year last Monday, became the first rookie since Michael Jordan to lead his team in points, rebounds, assists, and steals this season.
During the visit, Flagg met seven-time Cup champion Jimmie Johnson, four-time champ Jeff Gordon, and owner-driver Denny Hamlin while bonding with Zilisch over their shared youth in sports.
While this marked Flagg's first time at a NASCAR track, his parents regularly attended races at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, with his mother Kelly supporting favorite driver Tony Stewart.
