“Naxalism over Today”: Amit Shah Attends Assistive Devices Distribution Ceremony; Reiterates Centre’s Resolve to End Left Wing Extremism
Shah said 3,600 people received assistive devices as the government moves to rehabilitate victims of five decades of Naxal violence.
- On Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh 'Naxal-free,' marking the end of a five-decade insurgency while emphasizing the government must address the suffering inflicted on tribal communities.
- Addressing the 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan' via video conference, Shah highlighted the initiative's role in supporting Naxal violence victims. Held in Jagdalpur from October 5 to 7, the event provided assistive devices to more than 3,600 people with disabilities, including around 1,570 in Bastar.
- Official figures show extensive rehabilitation efforts, with approximately 8,526 Naxalites surrendering to authorities. Rehabilitation measures included 7,882 incentive payments, 455 jobs provided, and 129 land allotments to support integration.
- Converting security infrastructure, the government will establish public service centers in more than 200 former security camps. "The very places where our security personnel once sat to protect you will now become the places where officials from the Government of India and the Chhattisgarh government will lay the foundation for a developed Bastar," Shah said.
- "Simply eliminating Naxalism will not be enough," Shah stated, stressing the need to rebuild Bastar as a prosperous region. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai noted that the insurgency's eradication remains one of the state's greatest benefits under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.
