NASA’s Roman Space Telescope could last more than twice as long as planned
NASA’s Roman Space Telescope may now have enough fuel for at least 22 years of science, more than double its original 10 year design life. An extremely precise course correction, extra fuel at launch, and additional expected savings could keep the powerful observatory studying the universe for decades.
Before its launch last month, the US space agency said Roman was designed for a five-year primary mission, with the possibility of an additional five-year extended mission.

The Roman Space Telescope is on its way to the Lagrange L2 point, about 1.6 million kilometres from the Earth. Its mission will be to map the Universe and discover exoplanets. To achieve this, the telescope will exploit the effects of gravity. Planned to last for 5 years, its mission could eventually extend over 22 years.
