Nanaimo RCMP's Josh Waltman enjoying Tour de Rock, so far
The 23-rider fundraiser has raised more than $30 million since 1997, and each participant is expected to raise at least $5,000.
- On Thursday, Sept. 24, RCMP officer Josh Waltman and 22 riders pulled into Parksville after a long day of cycling, marking another leg of the annual Cops for Cancer Tour fundraiser.
- Participants departed Port Alice on Saturday, Sept. 19, on a 14-day, approximately 1,200-kilometre ride, with each cyclist aiming to raise at least $5,000 for Camp Goodtimes in Maple Ridge.
- Since 1997, the Cancer Tour has raised more than $30 million, a milestone Waltman credits to enthusiastic school receptions. "It's great to hear the kids screaming at the schools that we" have visited, he said.
- The Tour is scheduled to arrive in Nanaimo on Sunday, Sept. 27, where organizers planned a Gala Dinner, school visits, and cheque presentations for the community.
- Waltman was amused seeing large photos of Tony Trozzo of Black Press Media displayed in Qualicum, and he now anticipates riding into Ladysmith where his family will be waiting.
