Nanaimo Fire Rescue saves young gull
Fire crews used a snare pole to free the bird, which was not hurt and was released after a bystander called for help.

- Janine Morton, an employee at Red's Bakery, noted the gull is well-known to staff and customers, often walking down Commercial Street and forcing cars to stop.
- Assistant Fire Chief John MacKenzie explained the rescue team used a snare pole typically reserved for aggressive dogs to pull the gull from the deep crevice between buildings.
- MacKenzie confirmed the gull appeared unharmed and was successfully released to go on its way following the extraction.
