Myanmar military shuts down a major cybercrime center and detains over 2,000 people
The Myanmar military detained 2,198 people and seized 30 Starlink terminals during a crackdown on a large cybercrime hub linked to Chinese syndicates and ethnic militias.
On Monday, Myanmar's military dismantled KK Park, a cybercrime center allegedly used for forced labor and online fraud, during a raid in Myawaddy township.
Beginning in early September, the military's campaign targeted online fraud and illegal gambling, following regional pressure from China and Thailand that prompted a February operation freeing trafficked people.
On the outskirts of Myawaddy, KK Park sits near the Thailand border in Kayin State, where Myanma Alinn reported the army found over 260 unregistered buildings and seized 30 Starlink terminals, part of SpaceX.
Internationally, the raids follow U.S. and British sanctions last week as scam operations in Myanmar draw attention as a global problem involving international cyberscam networks.
Gen. Zaw Min Tun charged that top Karen National Union leaders were involved in scam projects at KK Park, an allegation the Karen National Union denies amid contested border region control.
