Profound shame at America’s lackluster response to earthquake
I am 79 years old and I have never felt so small and insignificant and powerless as I feel now reading about this catastrophe in Myanmar (“Myanmar death toll rises to 1,644 as resistance announces partial ceasefire,” March 30), nor so shamed by the crippled U.S. aid response after President Donald Trump said the United States is “going to be helping.” How?How did we get to this place where we can turn our backs?
Myanmar military: Quake death toll surpasses 2,000
Friday's massive quake in Myanmar has so far claimed more than 2,000 lives, the country's military said on Monday. In the second largest city of Mandalay, rescuers are rushing to find people still trapped under collapsed buildings as the crucial 72-hour mark passes.
