Murder investigation launched into fatal house fire in Waterford
Police say accelerants were used and two surviving children remain in critical condition as investigators treat the blaze as deliberate.
Four people, including a man, a woman, and two children, died following a severe house fire at the Birchwood estate in Waterford City, Ireland.
Firefighters arrived shortly after 5:00 a.m. to find the two-storey residential property fully engulfed in flames before extinguishing the blaze and recovering casualties.
Two surviving children sustained significant injuries in the blaze and were transferred to Crumlin Children's Hospital in Dublin in critical condition.
An Garda Síochána established a formal incident room at Waterford Garda Station and launched a public appeal for information regarding activity near Birch Avenue during the early morning hours.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin described the event as deeply disturbing, while local authorities opened a dedicated community support hub to assist grieving residents and affected family members.
