Driver arrested on suspicion of murder after fatal crash between two cars
A 43-year-old driver has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder after the crash left Barbara Mullaney dead and a teenager injured.
Wiltshire Police are treating the June 30 crash on the B4696 near Royal Wootton Bassett as a murder investigation, after re-arresting a 43-year-old man on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.
The fatal collision involved an orange Peugeot 107 travelling northbound and a black Vauxhall Astra heading south, killing 70-year-old Barbara Mullaney at the scene and injuring a teenage passenger.
A mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct regarding previous involvement with the suspect, as officers received multiple calls from the public throughout the day prior to the collision.
The Cricklade community is mourning Mullaney, a beloved pet shop owner described by local business owners as a "bright and caring" woman who leaves an "enormous hole" in the town.
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker from the Major Crime Investigation Team urges witnesses to provide dash cam footage of the Vauxhall Astra from Cricklade High Street on Tuesday, June 30; call 101, reference 54260078318.
