Penticton Fire Crews Remain on Site of Late-Night Inferno, Road Remains Closed
Emergency crews activated support services after evacuations as flames spread through the former Kampe estate, with a crane at the site also burning.
Late Wednesday night, a massive fire erupted at the 48,000 square-foot construction site on Green Avenue West in Penticton, destroying a future long-term care facility on the former David Kampe estate.
Sixty firefighters from Penticton and surrounding South Okanagan communities responded with mutual aid, battling flames visible as far as Okanagan Falls after crews were called at 10:12 p.m.
Four homes sustained direct fire damage, with 12 additional properties remaining evacuated due to an unstable construction crane that continues to hamper suppression efforts and poses ongoing hazards.
Highway 97 near Green Avenue remains partially closed to single-lane alternating traffic as of Thursday morning. The City of Penticton advises motorists to avoid the area while emergency operations continue.
Penticton Fire Chief Mike Larsson confirmed no injuries have been reported, and authorities are investigating the blaze's cause while maintaining focus on resident and responder safety.
