The former local and federal deputy and former PRD president of Zongolica, in the central mountainous area of Veracruz, Juan Carlos Mezhua, was shot dead on Sunday morning.According to the first reports, the indigenous and political leader of the Sierra de Zongolica was gunned down in the Piedras Blancas community, where he had allegedly been summoned, when armed men travelling in two trucks shot him, a few meters from a National Guard barracks.
