Controversial Mr. T Movie the A-Team Star Couldn't Stand Hits Netflix Today
Mr. T says the film focuses on his toughest moments while overlooking his Make-A-Wish work, military service and anti-drug advocacy.
- On Tuesday, Netflix released Untold: I Pity the Fool, a documentary profiling 74-year-old Laurence Tureaud's rise to stardom. Tureaud criticized the film, arguing it reduced his complicated life to a one-dimensional tough-guy image.
- Directed by Scott Weintrob, the film chronicles Tureaud's journey from a Chicago housing project through Hollywood success in Rocky III and The A-Team. However, Tureaud stated the documentary glosses over his philanthropic work, religious faith, and advocacy efforts.
- Criticizing the production, Tureaud told The Guardian the film is "garbage," citing its focus on embarrassing moments including his role as the "Bearded Lady" in Freaked. He also claimed the director ignored requests to review footage during production.
- Tureaud expressed particular frustration that his pastor, interviewed for two days, received just 30 seconds of screen time. He alleged the production team led by Weintrob attempted to "change the story and control the narrative."
- Beyond Hollywood, the documentary touches on Tureaud's battle with T-cell lymphoma and his advocacy work, including participation in Nancy Reagan's Just Say anti-drug campaign. These philanthropic efforts remain central to how Tureaud defines his own legacy.
