‘Mpox is making a comeback’: Toronto reports 14 cases since September
Toronto Public Health says 14 cases have been confirmed since September, while wastewater monitoring continues to detect mpox and the public risk remains low.
Toronto Public Health officials confirmed 14 mpox cases since September, while the Public Health Agency of Canada has "consistently detected mpox" in the city's wastewater.
Mpox continues to circulate in Toronto, with a rise in infections occurring through close or sexual contact, said Toronto's Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Michelle Murti.
Gilles Charette, director of the Gay Men's Sexual Health Alliance, said the virus is making a "comeback" but should be containable due to free vaccine access.
Two doses of the vaccine offer the best protection, with the second dose ideally administered 28 days after the first dose.
Toronto has seen 41 confirmed mpox cases so far this year, a decline from 118 cases during the same period in 2025, which totaled 158 for the year.
