Bayern Munich Says Coach Vincent Kompany Is 'Stable' After Collapsing at Friday Training Session
Bayern said the 40-year-old coach is in stable condition after collapsing at training, and assistant Aaron Danks will lead the team against Freiburg.
On Friday, Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany collapsed during reserve-team training and remains in hospital in stable condition, though the club confirmed he will be sidelined for weeks.
Prior to the collapse, the 40-year-old Kompany had been battling a virus in recent days, according to sporting director Max Eberl, and missed some training sessions.
Eberl said Kompany needs "protecting from himself," noting the club postponed their reserve side's match but will proceed with Sunday's Bundesliga trip to Freiburg.
Assistant coach Aaron Danks will take charge for upcoming matches, saying he spoke with Kompany solely to check on his well-being rather than discussing football operations.
Bayern leads the Bundesliga with 14 points from six matches, and the club will work together to keep operations moving forward while awaiting a medical diagnosis on Kompany's condition.
