$124,000 in contraband seized at Agassiz-area prison
Correctional officers seized two packages of contraband worth $124,500 at Mountain Institution, a medium-security prison near Agassiz, on April 12 and 13.
The packages contained cannabis concentrate, cannabis buds, crystal methamphetamine, tobacco, cigars, SIM cards, USB charging blocks, and cell phones.
The Agassiz RCMP is investigating the incident alongside Correctional Service Canada.
The Correctional Service of Canada has established a phone tip line to receive information about security activities at its institutions.
On Thursday, April 10, staff of the Federal Training Centre intercepted prohibited items, including drugs and other unauthorized equipment. On the St. Francis climb in Saint-Vincent-de-Paul, this federal prison is at multiple levels of security.
